Contractors and their workers are subject to a variety of health and safety regulations when working on government projects. These regulations assist keep the workplace safe and efficient. Along with OSHA, ANSI, NEC, and other organisations' standards, the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) maintains a Safety and Health Requirements Manual to oversee these workers' operations. We provide the EM 385-1-1 Safety & Health Topics (EM385) training to assist Site Safety and Health Officers (SSHOs), contractors, military personnel, and others in adhering to the rules set by the Safety and Health Requirements Manual EM 385-1-1 (2014 version). This training is designed for SSHOs who work on contracts that fall under the purview of EM 385-1-1.
The course meets the yearly training requirement provided in EM 385-1-1 Section 01.A.17.d for SSHOs. USACE collaborated with NAVFAC to develop the EM 385-1-1 handbook, which offers an overview of the safety standards for federal projects.
The 2014 Edition replaces the 2008 edition of EM 385-1-1. While many of the requirements in EM 385-1-1 correspond to OSHA standards, several requirements specifically surpass OSHA standards.

Every contractor working on government projects subject to EM 385-1-1 must designate one or more primary SSHOs, depending on the project’s size, complexity, and other factors. The EM 385-1-1 Safety & Health Topics (EM385) Course is intended to partially satisfy SSHO training requirements in accordance with EM 385-1-1 Section 01.A.17.d.
